Pedro Almodóvar confirmed to a Spanish outlet that he has two projects currently lined up.
The first one is 30-minute short film titled “Strange Way of Life,” a Western starring Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal that will premiere at Cannes in May. It’s already been shot and ready to go.
The other film is more mysterious. We don’t know much about it except that, via Almodóvar, it will start shooting in October. He did add that he will not be working with Penélope Cruz in the foreseeable future. They are close friends, but need some time apart to do their own thing.
It’s definitely not, what was supposed to be his English feature-length debut, “A Manual for Cleaning Women.” If you remember, Almodóvar dropped out of that Cate Blanchett starting project last fall. Blanchett had this to say about the failed adaptation:
We’ve been talking for years about working together. We were supposed to do it on the adaptation of Lucia Berlin’s book, “A Manual for Cleaning Women”, but Pedro does not feel comfortable with English. The film will not be directed by him. We are thinking about another project.
Almodóvar’s last feature-length film was 2021’s “Parallel Mothers” with Penelope Cruz. It’s kind of hard to believe, but Almodóvar is 73-years-old, which is wild considering I grew up watching this guy’s movies.
