The above image is the first “official” one released for Woody Allen’s upcoming film. Venice? Cannes?
Allen’s latest film no longer has the working title “WASP22,” it’s heading to the EFM market in Berlin with WestEnd Films under the name “Coup de Chance,” which roughly translates to “Stroke of Luck” in English.
We also have more details on the plot of Allen’s 50th film, which is being described as a contemporary romantic thriller “charting the story of two young people whose bond leads to marital infidelity and ultimately crime. Above is a first look image.”
This is set to be Allen’s first French-language movie, set in Paris, and is being described under the “policier” genre. It sounds, and has been described, by the man himself, like a spiritual successor to “Match Point.”
Woody Allen officially describes the film this way:
“Coup de Chance” is a contemporary story of romance, passion and violence set in contemporary Paris. Shot all over the city and a little bit in the countryside, it evolves around a romance between two young people who are old friends and devolves into marital infidelity and ultimately crime. It stars very gifted French actors and actresses, is all in the French language and looks very beautiful as photographed by the great cinematographer, Vittorio Storaro. The rest I’ll leave to surprise.
“Coup de Chance” will have its unofficial first screening at the EFM market next week, looking for potential buyers in multiple territories. This does not mean that it won’t premiere at a high-end film festival like Cannes or Venice in the coming months.
The cast of the film includes many Cesar-nominated, and winning, actors such as Lou de Laage, Melvil Poupaud, Valerie Lemercier, Niels Schneider, Elsa Zylberstein, Bárbara Goenaga, Grégory Gadebois, Anne Loiret, Sara Martins, Guillaume de Tonquédec and Arnaud Viard.
