So, much like James Cameron, Steven Spielberg is a major fan of SS Rajamouli’s “RRR.” In a conversation with Rajamouli, Spielberg praised the Indian blockbuster as “eye candy.”
“I thought your movie was outstanding… it was just amazing […] couldn’t believe my eyes – it was like eye candy.. it was extraordinary to look at and experience.”
Rajamouli was ecstatic about the praise, saying: “I can almost get up from the chair and do a dance – it means a lot to me.” The Indian filmmaker went on to praise Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans”:
“As I was watching the film, initially [it] felt like ‘Oh my God,’ he’s picturizing his own mom as not so good. I was empathizing with the father. But as we progress, we understand the difficulty of the situation – no one is bad. It is not about a person being good or bad. It’s about following your heart and following your duty.”
There are a lot of “RRR” fans in the industry; it was a contender to nab a Best Picture nomination that alas didn’t materialize. Some of the known filmmakers who have raves about the film include Spielberg, James Cameron, Adam McKay, James Gunn, Scott Derrickson, Daniel Kwan, The Russos, JJ Abrams, Edgar Wright.
