10:13: No surprise, EEAAO wins Best Ensemble.
10:04 pm: The sympathy card prevails. Brendan Fraser wins Lead Actor for “The Whale.” The Best Actor race will be a coin toss between Fraser and Austin Butler.
9:56 pm: Here’s another EEAAO winner, Michelle Yeoh wins lead actress. Cate Blanchett deserved this one for her all-timer performance, and it wasn’t even close. So, now Yeoh is now the favorite to win the Oscar.
9:02 pm: Ke Huy Quan (EEAAO) wins Best Actor in a Supporting Role. No surprise there. His biggest competition were the two ‘Banshees’ actors, but vote-splitting probably occured.
8:56 pm: Jamie Lee Curtis (EEAAO) upsets Angela Bassett (Wakanda Forever) for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Anne Thompson had mentioned last week that she’s heard of many Oscar voters not watching “Wakanda Forever” due to it being a Marvel movie. Racists! I’m thinking the tide may have shifted and Curtis now wins the Oscar.
The 29th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards are being handed out tonight. If you care to tune in, the ceremony will air live on Netflix’s YouTube channel starting at 8 p.m. ET.
“The Banshees of Inisherin” and “Everything Everywhere All at Once” lead the way this year with five nominations each, including in the top category of Best Ensemble.
Winners are voted on by 122,600 SAG-AFTRA members. This is a major precursor to determine the frontrunners for the Oscar acting races. I’ll be updating this page as the winners get announced.
