Paul Thomas Anderson had one hell of an intro for Todd Field last night at the DGA, calling “TÁR” a “beast” of a movie
“It’s made with such perfectly controlled mayhem, it’s really hard not to drool as another director. It’s really a ghost story, but also TÁR is funny. TÁR is really, really funny. TÁR is deeply funny.”
These last few weeks, Field’s movie has had some big-named directors coming out in support of it — Almodovar, Scorsese, Cuaron and now PTA.
Meanwhile, “Happening” filmmaker Audrey Diwan, who was nominated by the DGA for Best First Film, was gushing to a reporter over PTA being in the house last night. Diwan went on admitting to being inspired by PTA’s work and that she hoped he saw her film.
Meanwhile, Judd Apatow hosted the soirée, his jokes were hit and miss, but one that did land was spiked with absolute truth:
Our next presenter directed Boogie Nights, There Will Be Blood and Licorice Pizza. He has never won a DGA award, which kind of makes me think this whole night is bullshit. Please welcome Paul Thomas Anderson.
