'Crazy Rich Asians' Is Now The Highest-Grossing Romantic Comedy In A Decade

Despite my mixed review of the film, I couldn't be happier for the success "Crazy Rich Asians" at the American box-office. The latest news on this landmark film is that it has just become the highest-grossing romantic comedy in 10 years, surpassing 2009′s “The Proposal,” [via Box Office Mojo].

The “Crazy Rich Asians” tally now stands at an estimated $165.7 million as of this weekend. It also consequentially surpassed 2008′s “Sex and the City" ($152.6 million).The big kahuna of romantic comedies at the box-office remains 2002′s “My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” which earned more than $241 million.

'Asians' will most likely not surpass 'Greek Wedding,' but it goes without saying that the unexpected success of this film, fueled by heavy media coverage due to its significance, has led to plans for a film version of author Kevin Kwan’s second book in the Crazy Rich Asians trilogy, China Rich Girlfriend
