The folks at the usually reliable What’s On Netflix have a nice little roundup of what we know thus far about the next Safdie Brothers movie with Adam Sandler.
Most of the details they cite are already well-known, but there are a few new things hidden in the piece that should absolutely be noted.
Firstly, they mention how Benicio Del Toro is or at one point was eyed for a role in the forthcoming movie. Curiously, Del Toro was also supposed to play Howard (Sandler’s role) in “Uncut Gems.”
The second thing to note is that the film takes place in the baseball card collecting world during the 1990s. We did not know about the decade it was set, so this will be what you might call a “period piece,” the first one for The Safdies.
The still-untitled film is set to be shot on April 3rd, with Netflix producing.
Ever since their double whammy of “Good Time” and “Uncut Gems,” the Safdie Brothers have become one of the most interesting filmmakers working today.
Back in October, I had some intel that the duo were shooting their next film with Adam Sandler this winter. Then, in an interview with Vanity Fair, Sandler confirmed that this mysterious new Safdie film would be shooting in the “late winter.
Sandler mentioned to THR a few months back that the script, which seems to be evolving on a daily basis, is currently 340 pages.
