If you’re wondering what writer-director Cord Jefferson — an Oscar winner for “American Fiction” — will be doing next then it looks like he’ll be delving into genre territory (via Deadline)
A contemporary Western set in Arizona about two brothers searching for a third sibling.
Back in 2024, Jefferson had mentioned working on a “neo-western” that was “also like a noir.” He described the film as having “similar themes” to what was in “American Fiction” though through a “much, much different lens.”
Still no details on casting, let alone a production start, but this does sound like it’ll indeed be Jefferson’s next film. It’d be wonderful if he could re-team on this one with his “American Fiction” lead, the great and underrated Jeffrey Wright.
I really like Jefferson’s debut, “American Fiction,” which was filled with satirical sting, reminding me of Alexander Payne's earlier films. It mixed drama and comedy to ignite a socio-cultural conversation that is much needed today.
