Mikey Madison Offered Lead Role in Zach Cregger’s ‘Resident Evil’

March 27, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

If you’re Mikey Madison, and you’re coming off winning the Oscar for Best Actress, what project do you choose next? That’s —quite literally— the million-dollar question.

There are now whispers that Madison has been offered the lead female role in Zach Cregger’s “Resident Evil,” which already has Austin Abrams attached to star. I wouldn’t mind seeing Madison kill zombies — this could work.

Before her breakthrough, and Oscar-winning, turn in “Anora,” Madison, who turned 26 on Monday, was mostly known for her work as the rebellious teenager in FX’s “Better Things.” She also starred in 2022’s “Scream,” and had a supporting turn in Tarantino’s “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood.”

Of course, as far as I can tell, she’s just been offered the role in “Resident Evil,” but if she were to accept the invite then this would be a big deal for Madison’s career — teaming up with a hot director and getting paid a very handsome fee in the process.

Cregger’s upcoming “Resident Evil” reboot is rumored to follow a hapless courier (Abrams) tasked with delivering a package to a remote hospital. He soon finds himself caught in the middle of an outbreak and must fight through hordes of mutated creatures to survive.

Production on “Resident Evil” is supposed to begin in the fall, which would be just a few weeks after Cregger’s “Weapons” hits theaters. Cregger is apparently getting a $20M paycheck to write and direct the film for Sony.

A few months back, the project, which recently set up a September 18, 2026 release date, sparked a bidding war between four studios, including Warner Bros and Netflix, but Sony, who had distributed the last set of ‘Resident Evil’ movies, won the stakes.
