In the universe of insane sequel/remake ideas, and there have been too many to name in just a single article, here comes one trying to take the throne over Robert Downey Jr.’s “Vertigo” remake.
Ralph Macchio tells EW that he’s had talks with Joe Pesci, and “writers,” to greenlight a sequel to 1992’s “My Cousin Vinny.” Why? Because, according to Macchio, it’s a “beloved piece” and fans want it to happen.
The 1992 film tackled a New York lawyer, Vinny, who defends his cousin and a friend who are wrongly accused of murder in a small Alabama town. Despite his lack of experience, Vinny uses his unconventional style and street-smart tactics to uncover the truth and win the case.
Over the last decade, Pesci has remained relatively low-profile, with his most notable credit being his role in Martin Scorsese's The Irishman (2019). Pesci also released a jazz album called “Pesci... Still Singing”.
Jonathan Lynn directed ‘Vinny,’ which won Marisa Tomei the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Mona Lisa Vito, Vinny's girlfriend, while Joe Pesci's performance earned him praise, though he did not get nominated.
The film itself is a much beloved courtroom comedy, with sharp wit, memorable characters, and its humorous take on legal proceedings. Nothing more, nothing less. Hollywood doesn’t really make mid-budget films like that one anymore.
