Here’s the trailer. Celine Song trying to revive the rom-com. Hope it all works out for her. Can we all agree this is an unusual choice for a sophomore effort? It looks like a revamped indie version of “Hitch.”
A24 has set up a June 13 nationwide theatrical release for “Materialists.” It’s skipping film fests, and really the only option it had was a bow at Cannes, and this doesn't strike me as the type of film that usually premieres on the Croisette.
“Materialists,” which stars Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal, follows a young, ambitious New York City matchmaker who finds herself torn between two men, including her imperfect ex.
Song’s “Past Lives” was not only a Sundance sensation but went on to get Best Picture nominated at the Oscars. Whatever film Song did next was going to be met with a lot of anticipation, especially by critics, who praised “Past Lives” to no end. “Materialists” it is.
