LaKeith Stanfield Replaces Jonathan Majors in Dennis Rodman Biopic ‘48 Hours in Vegas

December 12, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

Last year, Johnathan Majors was dropped from Lionsgate’s Dennis Rodman movie, “48 Hours in Vegas,” due to his legal troubles, and the project soon went quiet after that.

Now it sounds like the project’s back on track as, according to The InSneider , LaKeith Stanfield has replaced Majors to play the former Chicago Bull in the film, which will be directed by Rick Famuyiwa (”Dope”). Famuyiwa will write the next draft of the script, which was written by Jordan VanDina (“The Binge”)

Set during the 1998 NBA Finals, “48 Hours in Vegas” dives into Rodman’s notorious unsuthorized trip to Las Vegas—joined by the team’s anxious assistant GM—and follows the unlikely bond that forms during their wild two-day escape.

If you saw the excellent Bulls doc “The Last Dance,” this crazy story was tackled in that series’ best episode. Rodman famously partied, gambled, and immersed himself in the city’s nightlife, drawing heavy media attention. The trip, marked by late nights and celebrity antics, became legendary for its timing and excess

I’m certainly a fan of Stanfield’s—an actor with unmistakable unpredictability to his performances. He’s delivered standout work in films like “Get Out,” “Sorry to Bother You,” and “Judas and the Black Messiah,” as well as in his key role on FX’s “Atlanta,” consistently grounding eccentric characters with nuance and depth.

Famuyiwa hasn’t directed a feature film since 2015’s “Dope,” a well-reviewed Sundance hit. He sadly wasted a few years developing Warner Bros’ Flash movie before ultimately being replaced by director Andy Muschietti. Instead, Famuyiwa directed episodes of “The Mandalori” and “Ahsoka.”

As for Majors, he’s still attempting that acting comeback, having recently shot the low-budget action flick “True Threat” for Charlamagne That God’s production company Southland Stories.
