Five years after Chadwick Boseman’s death, Marvel is looking to recast his character, T’Challa, for ‘Black Panther 3.’ That’s what The InSneider has heard via agency sources.
T’Challa wasn’t recast in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” and Marvel decided to pass the mantle on to his sister, Shuri, played by Letitia Wright. Last fall, an unnamed actor was actually offered the role of T’Challa, but they turned it down. So, the search is still on.
While 2018’s “Black Panther” grossed $1.3B worldwide, the 2022 sequel, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” with Wright at the helm, took in just $859M worldwide. Marvel doesn’t want this lucrative franchise to go further down the drain, and this decision to recast Boseman’s role is a clear indication that they aren’t messing around.
It was recently revealed that Ryan Coogler’s ‘Black Panther 3’ was in the works, and that Denzel Washington was cast in an unspecified role. It’s unclear whether the new T’Challa will appear in “Avengers: Doomsday” as that film is supposed to start production this coming March.
