We don’t know much about Steve Spielberg’s “The Dish” (tentative title). David Koepp wrote the script, and it’s said to be a two-hander about UFO’s, but nothing else has leaked out in regards to the plot.
The film, which stars Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo, Colin Firth and Josh O’Connor, is supposed to start production in March. Speaking to Deadline, Domingo is staying mum about what the film is actually about, but says that he was blown away by the script, which left him teary-eyed.
“I will tell you this,” he says. “I finished reading the script and I bawled. I thought it was one of the most beautiful scripts about our humanity. I think it was just the most beautiful film about our humanity, and I literally cried because Steven Spielberg believes in the possibility of the human beings we could be. That’s what I’ll tell you.”
“From what’s out there in the world, it is an untitled sci-fi experience. You know Steven’s always concerned about the stars and the moon, so I think that’s what I can tell you,” he added.
Koepp, who previously worked with Spielberg on “War of the Worlds” and “Jurassic Park,” recently told The Playlist that Spielberg’s sci-fi film is reminiscent of the filmmaker’s older works. It’s a return back to his roots (“Close Encounters of the Third Kind”).
Let’s hope that’s the case. These last 10 years, Spielberg’s directed “Bridge of Spies,” “The Post,” “Ready Player One,” “West Side Story,” and “The Fabelmans.” Don’t get me wrong, there’s a few strong films in there, but it’ll be great having Spielberg go old-school.
Universal has dated the film for May 15, 2026, which means it’s set to be Spielberg’s first adult-oriented summer movie since 2008’s “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Crystal Skull.”
