Apparently, Luca Guadagnino is working on a film version of “Leading Men” by Christopher Castellani. The story is said to tackle Tennessee Williams and his longtime lover Frank Merlo (via Indiewire)
Searchlight is developing the drama based on a book about playwright Tennessee Williams. Matthew Lopez, the writer behind the Olivier Award-winning play “The Inheritance,” is writing the screenplay.
“Leading Men” is about the passionate and often tumultuous relationship between Tennessee Williams and his longtime partner Frank Merlo. The film is set “amidst the glamorous literary circles” of 1950s Italy and New York and explores the “burden of fame and the complex negotiations of life in the shadows of greatness and ambition.”
Guadagnino is premiering “Queer” tonight at Toronto, he recently wrapped “After the Hunt,” starring Julia Roberts, and is rumored to direct a DCU film for James Gunn (Sgt. Rock). However, the next film he’s supposed to be directing is “Separate Rooms,” starring Josh O’Connor and Lea Seydoux.
