A busy day at TIFF. Edward Berger’s Oscar-buzzed “Conclave” just screened — it’s a very entertaining and, at times, very silly film. The performances are uniformly good, especially Ralph Fiennes. Later tonight sees the world premieres of “The Assessment” and A24’s “Heretic.”
In the meantime, Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice” was released on Friday, and it sounds like Warner Bros has a major hit in its hands. The sequel made $41M on Saturday and is expected to have a $100M opening weekend. It’s also Burton’s best-reviewed film in over 10 years (76% RT).
This is the second biggest opening weekend of Burton’s career. The second best opening ever in September. The third biggest opening of 2024. Hell, “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice” has outgrossed the first film’s entire global run in just 3 days.
I gather many of our readers have now seen “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice.” What did you think? Is it Burton’s return to form? Chime in below in the comments section.
