After just over two weeks in theaters, Rupert Sanders’ “The Crow” remake is headed to VOD next Friday, September 13. We shouldn’t be too surprised by this.
The film has turned into an utter disaster for Lionsgate. Last weekend, in only its second week of release, “The Crow” failed to crack the top 10 at the box-office, grossing only $1.8M. So far, it’s only amassed $9M domestically, on a $50M budget.
Audiences and critics (23% RT) have been tearing into “The Crow” since its release. The film was in development hell for over 15 years. It’s the remake we never needed, but nobody told that to Lionsgate or its producers.
Lionsgate is already coming off the “Borderlands” disaster, not to mention the latest tracking numbers for “Megalopolis” (via Puck) have it opening at just $5M. They also have Mel Gibson’s “Flight Risk,” and Alexandre Aja’s “Never Let Go” left to be released in 2024.
