Remember Freddie Prinze Jr? He was all the rage with screaming teenage girls in the late ‘90s and early aughts, starring in teen-centric fare such as “She’s All That,” “Down to You” and “Scooby-Doo.”
One of Prinze’s biggest hits was horror schlock “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” and its subsequent sequel, and Sony has decided to bring him back, with his co-star Jennifer Love Hewitt, for the latest installment of the horror film franchise, written by Sam Lansky and Kaytin Robinson (via Deadline).
The previously announced cast already included Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers and Jonah Haur-King. Plot details for this latest installment are unknown. The title of the sequel is rumored to be “I’ll Never Forget What You Did Last Summer.”
The original followed four young friends (Prinze Jr, Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe), connected by a tragic accident, who are reunited when they find themselves stalked by a hook-wielding psychopath in their small town.
Why make a sequel to a franchise that’s only had bad movies? Because nostalgia sells hard these days. There’s no other reason for it. Millennials grew up with the ‘I Know What You Did’ movies. However, people eventually caught on to the shlock and the third one, released in 2006, had little to no fanfare, going straight to DVD.
Sony Pictures will release the sequel in theaters on July 18, 2025.
