UPDATE: It looks like Warner Bros has decided to unveil the trailer for Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” tomorrow. It was originally set to release online sometime in early October. It’ll be interesting to get a first glimpse at what Coogler/Jordan have concocted here.
EARLIER: I was just told that Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners,” starring Michael B. Jordan, will have a trailer released next month. Presumably, it will be attached to ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’ showings? It’s also set to test screen early next week.
Although plot details have been scarce, a logline is now starting to circulate. It’s fairly vague, but read between the lines, and it parallels my previous reporting on what this film might be about …
Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers (Jordan) return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.
Now, as I’ve reported, the plot is rumored to revolve around twin vampires (Jordan in dual roles) arriving in a racist town and going to war against Ku Klux Klan members. The film is set smack dab in the middle of ‘30s Jim Crow South, during the height of the Klan.
Jack O’Connell is playing the “racist white villain” of the film. The filmmaking is said to be heavy in “anime influences” and action. Hailee Steinfeld and Delroy Lindoy also have supporting roles in “Sinners.”
Coogler’s film, which wrapped production in early summer, is set to hit theaters on March 7, 2025. This is one hot project that sparked a bidding war in February and had Warner Bros finally landing the rights. The budget for “Sinners” is said to be around $90M.
Coogler, the filmmaker behind “Creed,” “Fruitvale Station,” and “Black Panther,” is said to have franchise aspirations for “Sinners”, the goal is to turn it into an IP — which is part of the reason why studios seemed so keenly interested in acquiring it.
