Vanity Fair has our first look images at Jason Reitman’s “Saturday Night.” This probably means that either a trailer release or a TIFF announcement is imminent, or both.
Production on “Saturday Night” only wrapped in April, so this is a quick turnaround. Sony is very confident with this one, especially after the glowing reactions the film received at two test screenings last month.
The film takes place in “real time,” 90 minutes before the first Saturday Night Live episode aired on October 11, 1975, as fearless young comedians and writers attempt to launch the skit-based show.
“We interviewed everyone we could find that was alive from opening night,” Reitman tells VF. “Every living cast member, every living writer, people from the art department, costumes, hair and makeup, NBC pages, members of Billy Preston’s band—I mean, anyone we could find.”
The film stars Gabriel LaBelle, Dylan O’Brien, Cory Michael Smith, Rachel Sennott, Lamorne Morris, Nicholas Braun, Finn Wolfhard, Jon Batiste, Ella Hunt, Cooper Hoffman, Andrew Barth Feldman, Naomi McPherson, Willem Dafoe, J.K. Simmons, and Kaia Gerber.
Reitman’s directing resume includes “Up in the Air,” “Juno,” “Young Adult,” “Thank You For Smoking,” “Tully,” and “Ghostbusters: Afterlife.”
“Saturday Night” debuts in theaters on October 11.
