Here’s an intriguing update concerning Maggie Gyllenhaal’s “The Bride!”
Peter Sarsgaard, who co-stars in the upcoming Warner Bros. film, describes it to THR as “punk,” “violent” “wildly romantic,” and confirms that there will be singing and dancing numbers sprinkled all throughout its runtime.
“There are big dance numbers and stuff in the movie. It’s the best thing I’ve ever read,” Sarsgaard says. “To me, it’s both a big movie for adults and a big movie that’s for teenagers. It’s what everyone hopes for and tries to solve in making a big movie.”
The film started shooting iIn April, and recently wrapped production. ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’ cinematographer, Lawrence Sher, is lensing the film, and it looks like he’s shot back-to-back musicals.
Back in August, I had exclusively reported on the genesis of “The Bride!” A few months later, Netflix dropped the project, I then again broke the story that it was about to find a new home at Warner Bros.
“The Bride!” has a stacked cast: Sarsgaard, Christian Bale, Jessie Buckley, Annette Bening, Penelope Cruz, John Mulaney and Jake Gyllenhaal. The budget for the film is said to be around $100M.
Gyllenhaal helmed the Netflix-backed 2021 psychological drama, “The Lost Daughter,” starring Olivia Colman, which turned out to be a critical hit. It garnered three Oscar nominations and won Gyllenhaal Best Screenplay honors at Venice. You can bet top dollar that Gyllenhaal will premiere this one on the Lido in 2025.
Here’s the longline for “The Bride!” …
Lonely Frankenstein travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the aide of a Dr. Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride is born. She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement.
The film is a loose remake of 1935’s “Bride of Frankenstein” — the sequel to 1931’s “Frankenstein.” It’s set for a theatrical and IMAX launch on October 3, 2025.
