UPDATE: That’s a wrap. It took 5 and a half hours to announce 27 cast members.
To conclude, it looks as though ‘Doomsday’ will be betting big on X-Men, Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four characters. Will that be enough to whet appetites? I don’t know.
It remains to be seen whether a big audience will assemble for an ‘Avengers’ movie that does not include Iron Man, Spider-Man, Deadpool, Hulk, Black Panther, Doctor Strange and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Then again, I expect a few more additions to be announced by the summer.
EARLIER: It took four hours, but finally a few surprises. Apparently, we’re getting an old-school X-Men reunion in ‘Doomsday’. Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Rebecca Romjin, James Marsden, Allan Cumming, and Kelsey Grammar are set to reprise their X-Men roles.
EARLIER: it’s been three hours since this thing started, and there’s no end in sight. Cast members are still being announced. This is the stuff of nightmares.
EARLIER: Marvel Studios is currently involved in a live stunt via livestream on YouTube where they’re cycling through actors’ on-set chairs to unveil the names of those cast in “Avengers: Doomsday.” It’s a cringeworthy moment for all involved.
Among the cast members announced, so far, are Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Sebastian Stan (Bucky), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Rebecca Romjin (Mystique), Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Florence Pugh (Yelena), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Channing Tatum (Gambit), James Marsden (Cyclops), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Kelsey Grammar (Beast), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm), Danny Ramirez (Falcon) David Harbour (Red Guardian), Wyatt Russell (U.S. Agent), Tenoch Huerta Mejia (Namor), Lewis Pullman (Sentry), and of course, Robert Downey Jr (Doctor Doom).
“Avengers: Doomsday” (05.01.26) is set to be directed by the duo that brought us “The Electric State,” “Cherry,” “The Gray Man,” “You, Me and Dupree,” and “Welcome to Collinwood.”
