As far as I’m concerned, the addition of Sissy Spacek and Nick Nolte to the cast of Lynne Ramsay’s “Die, My Love” is fantastic. Both legendary performers who barely act in movies these days.
The project is also a reunion, of sorts, as Spacek and Nolte worked together on Paul Schrader’s “Affliction,” one of the filmmaker’s very best films, released in 1997. They join Jennifer Lawrence, Robert Pattinson and LaKeith Stanfield in Ramsay’s film, which is currently shooting in Calgary.
Spacek’s iconic list of films includes “Badlands,” “3 Women,” “In the Bedroom,” “Coal Miner’s Daughter” and “Carrie. She’s been mostly doing TV work of late, starring in Prime Video’s “Night Sky,” Prime’s “Homecoming,” Hulu’s “Castle Rock” and Netflix’s “Bloodline.”
Meanwhile, Nolte’s list of credits includes “Warrior,” “Hotel Rwanda,” “The Thin Red Line,” “Cape Fear,” and “48 Hrs.” He was recently cast in Ed Harris’s “The Ploughmen,” and also had a brief role in the 2023 Peacock series “Poker Face.”
“Die, My Love,” an adaptation of a novel by Argentine writer Ariana Harwicz, is being described as a stark tale set in rural France of a woman driven to the brink of insanity by marriage and motherhood. Martin Scorsese is set to produce the film.
Ramsay co-wrote the script with Enda Walsh. We can expect it to premiere at Cannes next year.
