Attention: ‘90s indie cinema lovers. I first reported on this project a year ago, and after some brief delays, it’s now inching very close to its October production start.
Cooper Hoffman (“Licorice Pizza”) is set to play Olivia Wilde’s “sexual muse” in Gregg Araki’s first film in over 10 years, “I Want Your Sex.” The film is based on an original script penned by Araki and Karley Sciortino (“Slutever,” “Now Apocalypse”) which “blithely explores desire, domination and fantasy”.
When fresh-faced Elliot lands an exciting job for renowned artist, icon and provocateur Erika Tracy (Wilde), his fantasies come true as Erika taps him to become her sexual muse. But Elliot soon finds himself out of his depth as Erika takes him on a journey more profound than he ever could have imagined, into a world of sex, obsession, power, betrayal and murder.
This will be Araki’s first film since 2014’s underrated “White Bird in a Blizzard.” Since then, he’s been mostly dabbling in episodic TV (“13 Reasons Why,” “Dahmer”) and even created his own series (2019’s “Now Apocalypse”),
According to Araki, one of the singular voices of the ‘90s New Queer Cinema movement, although somewhat different from his cult classics, “The Doom Generation” (1995), “Nowhere” (1997), and “Mysterious Skin” (2004), this new project will be “cut from the same cloth” as those three films.
