This is a total surprise.
Clint Eastwood’s “Juror No.2” has been dated for November 1 theatrical release in the UK and Ireland. This must surely mean it’s being released this year in the U.S.
In July, Variety’s Clayton Davis reported that “Juror No.2” would not be released in 2024. Has Warner Bros finally changed its mind? I was previously told that the film was not part of Warner Bros’ awards season plans. We haven’t heard anything about this one, with the absence of a trailer, and not a single image of the film released.
Word was that Warner Bros would be heavily focusing on “Dune: Part Two”, and “Joker 2” for Oscars, not to mention “Furiosa” and “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” vying for the tech categories. If, say, ‘Joker’ fails to ignite a spark at Venice then maybe ‘Juror’ is the Warner’s backup plan. Who knows.
Eastwood is 94, and it would be great if “Juror No.2,” which is being called his “final film,” sees the light of day soon. Last year, THR had reported that Eastwood “wanted to find one last project in order to be able to ride off into the sunset with his head held high.” He found the script for “Juror No. 2” and said this is “the one”.
“Juror No. 2” stars Toni Collette, Nicholas Hoult, Kiefer Sutherland and Zoey Deutch. The film is “set during a murder trial where one of the jurors slowly realizes he killed the victim in a reckless-driving accident and tries to save the defendant without incriminating himself.”
Eastwood’s last outing was one of the worst films of his career, 2021’s “Cry Macho,” but he’s been fairly consistent as a filmmaker, throughout his career, and even in his twilight years, having released 2018’s “The Mule,” and 2019’s “Richard Jewell” — both very good.
