What we know about “Babygirl” is that it’s A24, the film is set to premiere in Venice competition and will be released theatrically on December 20.
Coming to us from writer-director Halina Reijn (“Bodies, Bodies, Bodies”), Nicole Kidman, Harris Dickinson, Antonia Banderas, and Sophie Wilde star in a film tackling a high-powered CEO (Kidman) who puts her work on the line when she begins a steamy affair with her much younger intern (Dickinson).
We have our first look images for “Babygirl,” which is getting the Vanity Fair treatment. There’s the usual Oscar positioning, describing Kidman’s performance as brave and no holds barred. In fact, Kidman tells the magazine that her experience on the film left her “ragged” and “exposed.”
"This is something you do and hide in your home videos," the Oscar winner said of her erotic thriller. "It is not a thing that normally is going to be seen by the world."
“Babygirl” test screened in June, and while the reviewer stopped short of calling it a great film, Dickinson is said to “burn up the screen” with his performance being described as a “big superstar breakout moment”. The film is not really an “erotic thriller,” but more about Kidman’s character reconciling the psychology of being in a BDSM relationship with Dickinson’s intern.
Throughout the film, Dickinson forces her to engage in these sexual mind games, she crawls like a dog and calls Dickinson “master,” but there’s actually only brief nudity in the film. Again, it’s more about the psychological ramifications that come with this unusual affair.
Principal photography on “Babygirl” began in December 2023, in New York City. The project marks Reijn’s second English-language feature film, both produced by A24.
