Disney’s trying hard to make people forget about “The Acolyte.”
Word is that all merchandise for “The Acolyte” has been completely removed from Disney’s online store. Is Disney trying to erase the show? Some are speculating that they might next be pulling the show from its streaming platform.
In case you’re unaware, the Disney+ Star Wars series was recently canceled after just one season, despite it ending on a cliffhanger. You can speculate all you want as to the reasons why the nixing occurred, but fact of the matter is that “The Acolyte” just didn’t hit it off with the fanbase as much as Disney expected it to.
I’m not sure how deleting merchandise means that it will lead to its entire removal on streaming, but that’s where we’re at right now. The only reason Disney could potentially remove “The Acolyte” from Disney+ is to avoid paying residuals for the series, and they’ve done that before with another show (“Willow”).
I don’t believe the erasure would be worth it for Disney. Can you just imagine the PR disaster waiting to happen if they go out of their way to eliminate anything and everything having to do with “The Acolyte”?
No cast or crew from “The Acolyte” has yet to address the cancelation, but there’s been a #RenewTheAcolyte social media campaign. Good luck with that.
Another Star Wars show, “Skeleton Crew” starring Jude Law, is set to premiere on Disney+ in December. A second season of “Ahsoka” is also in the works, while “The Mandalorian and Grogu” is the next Star Wars movie, set for release on May 22, 2026.
No word yet on Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Rey movie, which I’d previously reported might be in limbo. There are script issues plaguing that film, and Disney has been losing its patience about it.
