“Deadpool and Wolverine” hit the $1 billion milestone earlier in the week and is now at $1.08B worldwide. It’s now the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all-time, surpassing 2019’s “Joker,” and of course, that’s without the adjustment of inflation.
It’s also the highest R-rated earner ever domestically, having surpassed previous champ “The Passion of the Christ” ($370M) two weekends ago. “Joker” actually made less than ‘Passion’. Both films have had sequels greenlit, with ‘Joker 2’ being released in October — no word yet on when Gibson’s ‘Resurrection’ will start filming.
Meanwhile, “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which opened on July 26, keeps earning the big bucks. It made $4.5M on Thursday and is headed towards a $35M fourth weekend. It will, however, finally get dethroned this weekend by “Alien: Romulus” which is set to earn over $40M.
