As far as sequels go, I don’t mind this one.
Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly is set to return in a continuation of 2006’s “The Devil Wears Prada.” Emily Blunt is also eyed to come back for the sequel. No word yet on Anne Hathaway’s involvement. Original screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna will pen the screenplay.
The sequel’s synopsis (via Puck):
Miranda’s (Streep) career goes into decline, which forces her to go face to face with Emily (Blunt), now a major exec at a luxury group, whose advertising dollars Miranda desperately needs.
Based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel of the same name, the 2006 film followed Andy (Hathaway), a recent journalism graduate who moves to New York City and somehow land a prominent gig as the assistant to Miranda Priestly (Streep), a powerful and very demanding editor-in-chief of a high-fashion magazine.
During the 21st century, Streep has been Oscar-nominated nine times for her acting for “The Devil Wears Prade,” “Adaptation,” “Doubt,” “Julie & Julia,” “The Iron Lady,” “August: Osage County,” “Into the Woods,” “Florence Foster Jenkins” and “The Post.”
Many of these performances were not necessarily worthy of a nomination, Streep can nab a nomination purely on her name alone, but her work in ‘Prada’ sure as hell was worthy of recognition — it’s maybe her best work of the last 20 years.
