Just like Francis Ford Coppola and “Megalopolis,” it’s now being reported that Kevin Costner is footing the bill for marketing costs on “Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1.”
This was all part of the deal Costner had with Warner Bros if they were to take on theatrical distribution. Last we heard, Costner put up $38M of his own money to finance the $115M film, and that’s not counting the second one, being released in August, also three hours, which is said to have cost a little less ($80M).
For the time being, the first film is off to a rocky start at the box office. Costner’s Civil War epic could only muster up $3M on Friday and it might actually have a 3-day opening weekend below $10M.
