Remember Zhang Yimou? He was one of the most acclaimed international filmmakers of the ‘80s, ‘90s and ‘00s and probably best known for films such as “Red Sorghum,” “Ju Dou,” “To Live,” “Raise the Red Lantern,” “Hero,” and “House of the Flying Daggers.”
However, his recent output can somewhat be qualified as Chinese-owned, no thanks to the commie censors in that country who dilute any film to sheer propaganda. In other words, Zhang has sold out for “the cause” — he was even hired by the CCP to direct the 2008 Beijing Olympic games ceremony.
With that said, today it was announced that Zhang will direct an adaptation of Liu Cixin‘s “Three-Body Problem.” There have already been multiple adaptations of Cixin’s book, and now, it appears, we’re getting another one. (via THR)
The film, which is Chinese funded, will tell the story of a group of people from the past, present, and future who come across an alien civilization from a neighboring solar system. As mentioned, “Three-Body Problem” has already been tackled, most notably by Netflix, and “Game of Thrones” showrunners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Two more seasons have already been greenlit by the streamer.
