Todd Haynes will write and direct “Trust,” a limited series starring Kate Winslet. Jon Raymond will co-write the project. This has the makings of something very special. The official logline reads ..
In a story told from multiple, competing perspectives, a 1920s Wall Street tycoon amasses a sudden fortune but loses a beloved wife. Decades later, his attempts to control the narrative of his life are undone by a biographer who uncovers the ultimate secrets of the legendary marriage.
“Trust” is set to be a reunion for Haynes and Winslet who previously worked on HBO’s “Mildred Pierce,” the memorable 2011 miniseries based on James M. Cain’s 1941 novel. Raymond also co-wrote that project with Haynes.
Coming off last year’s “May December,” Haynes is also supposed to shoot a film noir, starring Joaquin Phoenix, in late July. Raymond, again him, co-wrote the script for that still untitled film which is set in 1930s L.A. and Mexico. It’s been described by Haynes as a “button pusher” that could warrant an NC-17 rating.
Haynes is the filmmaker behind such acclaimed works as “Safe,” “Far From Heaven,” and “Carol.” It’ll be interesting to see if, longtime Haynes collaborator, cinematographer Edward Lachman will be part of these projects. You just can’t imagine a Haynes movie without Lachman’s sultry photography.
