Paul King’s “Paddington 2” was a critical hit in 2018 — it garnered a 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, with only two of the 253 reviews submitted being negative. It was also a better and more inventively rendered film than the original.
Sadly, King is not back for the third one (“Paddington in Peru”) which wrapped production in October 2023. He instead opted to direct “Wonka.” Dougal Wilson, in his feature debut, replaces King as he’s set to tackle the whimsical bear (voiced by Ben Whishaw).
The trailer for “Paddington in Peru” has just been unveiled. This new story follows our beloved bear as he goes to Peru to visit his Aunt Lucy, who lives at the Home for Retired Bears. Of course, trouble occurs as Paddington and the Brown family end up experiencing various hiccups that force them to uncover the secrets to a grand mystery.
Joining Whishaw in the cast are Hugh Bonneville, Emily Mortimer, Antonio Banderas, Olivia Colman, Julie Walters and Jim Broadbent. “Paddington in Peru” will be in U.K. and Irish cinemas on November 8 before hitting the U.S. on January 17.
