This film is cursed.
Yann Demange is no longer directing Marvel’s “Blade” reboot. Demange is the second director to leave the project. Last year, Demange (“71,” “White Boy Rick”) was hired to replace Bassam Tariq on the project.
To make matters worse, the latest screenwriter, Michael Green (“Logan”), has also exited the film. The Wrap is now reporting that Marvel veteran Eric Pearson is working on another draft. He is the sixth writer hired to take a crack at the script, after Green, Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Michael Starrbury, Beau DeMayo and Nic Pizzolatto.
Apparently, they want us to believe that the film will start shooting in the fall. I’ll believe it when I see it. This project has been around for five years now. Back in 2019, at San Diego’s ComicCon, is when Marvel originaly announced Mahershala Ali as the next Blade.
Of course, the COVID-19 pandemic hit shortly after that and the film’s development took a few steps back. What’s more worrisome is that film’s intended release date keeps changing. “Blade” was originally supposed to come out in November 2023, then it got delayed to September 2024, then February 14th, 2025, and now it’s officially dated for November 7, 2025. A recent report, via Jeff Sneider, stated that it would most likely be delayed to 2026.
There have also been rumors of star Mahershala Ali dropping out of the project, which only intensified after Aaron Pierre bowed out of the film in March. Last we heard, Ali was apparently very happy with the new script … which is now being rewritten by Pearson.
For now, the cast still includes Ali, Mia Goth and Delroy Lindo.
