I really want Kevin Costner to finish this project, consisting of four ‘Horizon’ films, and this comes from someone who wasn’t necessarily impressed by the first instalment. He’s been working on ‘Horizon’ for almost 40 years — he just needs the money to complete it.
If Costner wants to self-fund these films, then who should stop him from pursuing this valiant endeavor? Who knows, maybe the next few films will improve in quality. The first one felt like a 3-hour set up of characters and plot lines, and maybe it should have just been made as a limited series, but Costner is banking on the theatrical experience with these four films.
It’s quite the ambitious undertaking this ‘Horizon’. Costner was very adamant at shooting parts 3 & 4 this summer, and he went as far as to shoot nine days’ worth of footage in May, until the money ran out. I’m told no further footage will be shot until he, hopefully, gets the money to shoot the rest of his quadrology in the fall. At this point, there’s nothing wrong in asking Russian oligarchs and Saudi royalty to invest.
Costner is currently installed in Utah, where he is planning on shooting background stuff, but this on-again and off-again shooting schedule cannot reasonably continue in this fashion, especially with the absence of working actors. ‘Horizon: Part 1’ is supposed to be theatrically released on June 28. What happens if it flops? I don’t think Costner will care that much, but potential investors surely will.
