Chris Nash's “In A Violent Nature” premiered at Sundance to some truly polarizing reactions (trailer). The “slasher” horror movie, filmed entirely from the killer’s perspective, is said to be very gory, with a particular moment that, supposedly, had someone vomiting at a festival screening.
It doesn't hit theaters until the end of the month, but now audio from a recent Chicago critics screening has leaked online, and the audience can be heard reacting to what sounds like a shocking moment in the film. Consider me intrigued.
I don’t know if this is purposeful marketing on the part of IFC/Shudder, or if the leak actually came from outside circles, but it went viral and has gotten horror fans hotly anticipating this one.
With that said, the MPA was about to stamp the film with a NC-17 rating, but IFC/Shudder have decided to bypass all that and just release the film as “Unrated.” However, don’t expect a '“mainstream” horror flick either. Yes, “In A Violent Nature” is gory, with lots of blood and guts, but it’s also said to be an arthouse film in the way that it’s shot and paced.
Here’s the official synopsis:
When a locket is removed from a collapsed fire tower in the woods that entombs the rotting corpse of Johnny, a vengeful spirit spurred on by a horrific 60-year-old crime. His body is resurrected, and he becomes hellbent on retrieving it. The undead golem hones in on the group of vacationing teens responsible for the theft and proceeds to methodically slaughter them one by one in his mission to get it back – along with anyone in his way.
The film stars Ry Barrett, Andrea Pavlovic, Cameron Love, Reece Presley, Liam Leone, Charlotte Creaghan, Lea Rose Sebastianis, Sam Roulston, Alexander Oliver, and Lauren Taylor.
IFC Films will release “In A Violent Nature” exclusively in theaters on May 31.
