A Paris court has acquitted Roman Polanski of defaming a British actress who accused him of raping her when she was a teenager.
In 2019, Polanski told Paris Match magazine that Charlotte Lewis had lied about being sexually assaulted by him four decades ago. Lewis, 56, recently brought the case against the 90-year-old filmmaker. Polanski has mainted that it was a "heinous lie".
In 2010, Lewis accused the director of assaulting her in "the worst possible way" in 1983 when she was 16, after she had travelled in Paris to be cast in a film. She later appeared in Polanski’s 1986 film “Pirates.”
Many years ago, Paris Match quoted Lewis as saying: "I was fascinated by him, and I wanted to be his lover." Several other women have since come forward with claims that Polanski abused them. He’s denied all these claims against him.
