If you read my column then this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. John Waters has confirmed that Aubrey Plaza will star in his next film, “Liarmouth.” I reported this casting news last month.
However, despite turning in the script, the project seems to be having some funding issues. Waters tells Variety, “I’m thrilled that she’s going to [star in it], but we don’t have the money yet. I don’t know what’s going to happen. We’ll see.”
“Liarmouth,” based on Waters’ own novel, follows con artist Marsha Sprinkle, who is described as “a suitcase thief, scammer, and master of disguise. Dogs and children hate her. Her own family wants her dead. She’s smart, she’s desperate, she’s disturbed, and she’s on the run with a big chip on her shoulder. They call her Liarmouth―until one insane man makes her tell the truth.”
“Liarmouth” could be his first film in almost 20 years, but adding Plaza to the mix only amps up our excitement further. His last filthy creation was 2004’s “A Dirty Shame.” Waters is the iconoclast filmmaker behind “Pink Flamingos,” “Polyester,” “Serial Mom,” and “Hairspray.” This sicko world needs a new John Waters movie and it should hopefully be coming soon.
