QT fans, rejoice!
After much speculation, and according to a Production Weekly listing, Quentin Tarantino’s tenth and final film, “The Movie Critic,” is scheduled to start shooting in Los Angeles this fall.
Set in California 1977, “The Movie Critic” tackles a man who writes film reviews for adult magazine “The Popstar Pages. There have been rumors pointing towards real-life ‘70s Hollywood Press film critic Jim Sheldon being the main character, some others believe it might actually be Sheldon’s colleague William Marigold. Tarantino has admitted to passionately reading both of those critics during his childhood.
Brad Pitt is set to star in the project. There’s also been talk of Tom Cruise joining the fray, in a supporting role. There were also rumors that Paul Walter Hauser was in negotiations for the lead role prior to the SAG-AFTRA strikes. Other actors rumored to be in the film include Kurt Russell, Samuel L. Jackson, and John Travolta.
Suffice to say, we will hopefully be getting more details on this one very shortly. With a production date now set it does seem as though things are revving up with this one.
You can also bet that Tarantino will want to bring this final film to Cannes and, with a fall shoot now being eyed, we might be looking at a 2025 premiere after all. If that is indeed the case then it would tie a Tarantino record for the longest gap between movies in his career. His last one was 2019’s “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood.” He also didn’t release a film in between 1997’s “Jackie Brown” and 2003’s “Kill Bill: Volume One.”
