“Scream 7” is starting production this summer, via Daniel Richtman.
We already know that Neve Campbell is supposed to make her big return to the franchise in this one. Richtman reports that Courtney Cox and Patrick Dempsey will be there as well. Producers are also casting for three young co-leads in their ‘20s.
So, after the whole Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega fiasco, it seems as though they are rushing this one for a 2026 release. A script has been written. Actors have been cast. Kevin Williamson is replacing Christopher Landon in the director’s chair.
With that said, the last ‘Scream’ movie that I semi-liked was the fourth one, released in 2011. They are stretching this near four-decade franchise to its absolute commercial limits. Sure, there is still a fanbase, but at some point that very same audience will be jumping ship and saying enough is enough. The last one, released in 2023, racked up $108 million domestically.
