The weekend box-office was topped by “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” which grossed an estimated $43.2 million, around $2M below expectations. The budget is said to be $100 million. With a CinemaScore of B+ it’ll be interesting to see if ‘Frozen Empire’ has legs in its second weekend, especially since critics weren’t so kind to it (42% on RT).
Speaking of legs, “Dune: Part Two” certainly has them, dropping only 38% — it grossed $17.6 million in its fourth weekend of release. Its total domestic tally now stands at $233 million. A $300 million final tally is not out of the questions, but $275 million is certainly happening for Denis Villeneuve’s epic. It should also pass $600 million worldwide by mid-week.
Meanwhile, Neon’s “Immaculate,” an indie horror starring Sydney Sweeney, had a $5.3 million debut, playing in 2354 theaters. This represents the largest opening weekend ever for Neon. The film was made for a little less than $10 million. It turns out that Sweeney’s decent star power combined with the horror genre makes for a successful formula.
