Denis Villeneuve shot both ‘Dune’ movies back-to-back, “without even an hour in between.” He’s telling THR “I physically need to recover for a couple of weeks,” and that, for his next project, he’s waiting for whichever screenplay is completed first.
More intriguingly, Villeneuve says he currently has “four projects on the table.” We already know about “Dune: Messiah,” “Rendezvous with Rama” and “Cleopatra,” which is being written by “1917” scribe Krysty Wilson-Cairns. What’s the fourth one?
One of them is a secret project that I cannot talk about right now, but that needs to see the light of day quite quickly.
Is this the same “secret” project about “time and space” that Eric Roth had alluded to late last year? I’m thinking Roth was referring to ‘Rama.’ Maybe it’s the next Bond? For the time being, Villeneuve is keeping his cards to himself and, since this is a time sensitive project, I would imagine we’ll be hearing something about it soon.
Regardless, Villeneuve says all four of the projects are still being written. Whatever he does next might come down to whichever is ready first. For the better part of all of last year the rumors were pointing towards “Cleopatra” with Zendaya in the lead role. That’s still a very real possibility.
