Five months after the film was originally scheduled to be released, but was delayed because of the strikes, “Dune: Part Two” will be bringing some wealthy numbers at the box-office this weekend.
Denis Villeneuve’s film is set to have the highest-grossing opening weekend of the year when it arrives in theaters on Friday, with a projected $190 million worldwide opening, according to Variety. They’re also predicting an $80 million 3-day bow in the U.S. “Dune Part Two” will be released in more than 4,000 theaters across the country Friday.
These numbers seem to be partly driven by the glowing reviews it’s been getting. The movie sits at 97% fresh versus the first movie’s 83% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s undoubtedly the better film of the two, and audiences will surely be noticing that this weekend.
The first “Dune” movie grossed $41 million during its 2021 opening weekend, but those numbers were severely impacted by COVID-19 and a day and date release to HBO Max. The fanbase of the franchise has only grown t larger these three years since it’s release.
