Warner Bros. recently landed the rights to Ryan Coogler’s next film starring Michael B. Jordan. It was a heated bidding that, as requested by Coogler and Jordan, would not include streamers.
Described as a period thriller centering on vampires, with dual twin roles for Jordan, and having a 1930s Jim Crow South setting, with some “anime influences,” the goal is to start shooting this one in April.
There’s now word that the plot might have to do with Vampires going to war against the KKK. That actually makes total sense given the setting of the film which is smack dab in the middle, and during, the height of the Klan.
I gather this’ll be as close to plot as we’re likely going to be getting for this film. It was previously reported that secrecy was so tight on Coogler’s latest project, to be produced by his own Proximity Media, that execs had to trek to the offices of WME just to read the script.
Judging by the cautious steps being taken for this $90 million film, you’d swear that this was actually the next Christopher Nolan film.
This project is set to be the next film written and directed by Coogler, the filmmaker behind “Creed,” “Fruitvale Station,” Black Panther,” and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever — Jordan has starred in all four of those films.
The untitled project, based on an original idea by Coogler, is said to have franchise aspirations as the goal is to turn it into an IP — which is part of the reason why studios seemed keenly interested in acquiring it before Warner Bros. finally prevailed.
