Deadline is reporting that Tim Burton is attached to direct “Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman”, a reimagined telling of the 1958 Warner Bros. movie. “Gone Girl” author Gillian Flynn is writing the screenplay. No casting or production details were announced.
Allison Hayes starred in the original sci-fi cult classic as a wealthy heiress whose close encounter with an alien triggers her to grow into a giantess, complicating her marriage which is already in turmoil no thanks to her philandering husband.
I’m cautiously optimistic about Burton’s ‘Beetlejuice’ sequel, which the filmmaker claims revived his inner artist after getting his soul crushed by Disney. It’s being released on September 6.
As mentioned, Burton, who had, what he referred to, as a “soul destroying” experience making films for Disney these last few years, says he felt rejuvenated making this “Beetlejuice” sequel:
I tried to strip everything and go back to the basics of working with good people and actors and puppets. It was kind of like going back to why I liked making movies.”
Burton’s last film was 2019’s “Dumbo.” Last October, the director stated that he was done making Disney movies because he felt enslaved working for them. It made sense. Burton has not directed a good movie in over 10 years. In my books, his last good one was 2013’s “Big Eyes.”
Regardless, he has an impressive filmography that includes the likes of “Beetlejuice”, “Batman Returns,” “Edward Scissorhands,” “Ed Wood”, “Sleepy Hollow”, “Mars Attacks”, “Big Fish” and “Sweeney Todd”.
