After winning the TIFF People’s Choice Award for “Life of Chuck,” Mike Flanagan is only getting started. He’s set to direct a complete reboot of ‘The Exorcist’ franchise, replacing exited filmmaker David Gordon Green, and recently added another project to his ever-expanding itinerary.
Flanagan signed up for a horror IP, adapting another Stephen King novel; their next collaboration will be “Carrie,” this time done in an 8-episode limited series format for Amazon.
Here's an interesting bit of casting news. According to Daniel Richtman, Milly Shapiro — of “Hereditary” fame — is in talks to play Carrie in Mike Flanagan's TV adaptation of the story. Samantha Sloyan (Hush) is in talks to play her mother.
As much as I'm highly skeptical about Flanagan’s remake — De Palma’s original rules! — Shapiro as Carrie is perfect casting. They’re supposed to start production on this one in the summer. Look for more announcements in the coming weeks.
