Robert Eggers’ “Nosferatu” is finally in theaters. I gather some of our readers went to see it these last 24 hours. What did you think? I’m planning a re-watch on Friday, but my initial response, when I saw almost a month ago, was mixed to positive.
A major fan of “Nosferatu” is Sean Baker, who happens to have directed the year’s most acclaimed film (“Anora”). In a post on X, Baker says “Nosferatu” might be the best movie he’s seen all year:
It’s going to be very hard to beat NOSFERATU for my fave film of the year. Must see on the big screen. Eggers’s direction is masterful and Lily-Rose Depp and Nicholas Hoult deserve best actor noms. Glorious cinematography, score, production design and editing. My god this an incredible film.
“Nosferatu” has an 82 on Metacritic and 90 on Rotten Tomatoes. Eggers has now directed four films, including “The Northman,” “The Lighthouse” and “The Witch.” If “Nosferatu” makes decent money, and it’s currently projected for a $25M weekend, then Eggers might be able to get another passion project of his greenlit, “The Knight.”
