Paul King Confirms ‘Wonka 2' is Happening

November 9, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

During the summer, I reported that “Wonka 2” was happening and set for a 2027 release. A few days later, Warner Bros. announced a new addition to their calendar, an “UNTITLED WB FAMILY SEQUEL” dated for December 17, 2027.

I would bet good money on this mysterious family movie being the “Wonka” sequel. “Wonka” hit theaters on December 15th, and the potential sequel seems to share the same exact week in December as its targeted release date.

‘Wonka’ director Paul King has now confirmed that the sequel is indeed in development, and that the script is currently being written (via HeyUGuys):

We’ve got about half of a draft. We’ve got a story that we like and we know where we want to take him

“Wonka,” released last December, was a huge hit for Warner Bros racking up $632M at the worldwide box-office. It was a given that a sequel would happen. Just a few months ago, King told ComicBook, that another chapter was "definitely something [they're] thinking about.”

King’s prequel to Roald Dahl‘s 1964 novel “Charlie and The Chocolate Factory,” starred Timothee Chalamet as the eccentric candymaker, the ensemble cast also included Keegan Michael-Key, Olivia Colman, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, and Hugh Grant as an Oompa-Loompa.
