Ridley Scott has decided to delay his ‘Bee Gees’ biopic and will instead be shooting the mystery sci-fi film he was hinting at in a recent interview.
Paul Mescal (“Gladiator II”) is reportedly in talks to star in “The Dog Stars,” Scott’s upcoming adaptation of Peter Heller’s acclaimed post-apocalyptic novel. Mescal is being eyed for the role of Hig, a widowed pilot and one of the few survivors in a world devastated by a global pandemic.
Set in post-pandemic Colorado, the story follows Hig as he leads a solitary existence in an airplane hangar, with only his dog and a gruff gunman for company. His quiet life is disrupted when he intercepts a mysterious transmission on his Cessna’s radio, sparking a journey to uncover its origin.
Scott is directing a screenplay written by Mark L. Smith (“Twisters,” “The Revenant”). Production is set to begin in the spring of 2025, which means we probably won’t be seeing his ‘Bee Gees’ biopic any time soon. For Scott fans, this seems to be a largely positive development.
Meanwhile, alongside ‘Bee Gees,’ Scott has seven other projects, percolating in development, including “Gladiator III,” “Freewalkers,” “Bomb,” and “Battle of Britain.” He’s turning 87 this month.
