It’s “Glicked” weekend. Along with “Gladiator II,” we have John Chu’s ambitiously glossy “Wicked,” now playing in theaters. Chu’s musical earned $28M on Friday and is headed towards a $117M opening weekend. Colossal numbers.
Audiences, filled with fans of the original Broadway musical, vastly approve of “Wicked” as the film has earned an “A” CinemaScore, 93% PostTrak approval and 98% RT user rating. Call it fan service, or an actual good movie (which I don’t agree with), but “Wicked” has turned into a cultural phenomenon.
Same with the “Gladiator II” thread, I gather many of our readers are planning to watch, or have already seen, “Wicked”; What did you think? Despite its fair share of detractors, including myself, many critics approve of it (89% RT, 72 MC) Chime in with your thoughts in the comments section below.
